IT WAS NOT AS IT IS

One day, my dear, when we look back
10,000 years upon the first pitiful steps
of man on the Moon,
when we know as well as we know anything,
that as we cast our glance across the universe
across the stars against the ground of indigo
upon some sea of tranquility
of storms and showers

that you and I are greater than they
that first set out to cross the sky
are wiser and experienced,
we fly beyond their galaxy.
When we look back 10,000 years
let’s pity them that never knew
these joyful days of azure, blue, and indigo,
of Beta Lyrae and of life among the stars and you.
